Our Story
Rooted in history. Driven by excellence.
Serving the Southeast since 1967.
Where it began
One man. One dream. One tractor.
It all began with Charles “Charlie” Herndon, who dreamed of building something of his own. With a strong work ethic, a passion for excellence, and a vision for the future, Charlie set out to create a company built to last.
In 1967, Charlie and his wife, Frances Owens Herndon, founded Herndon, Inc. From the start, the company was built on hard work, determination, and a commitment to quality service and new solutions in erosion control and hydroseeding.

The beginning
From Kings Mountain to Lugoff
Charles “Charlie” William Herndon was born on May 31, 1942, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. From an early age, Charlie loved the outdoors and dreamed of owning and operating his own business. He married Frances Owens Herndon, and together they raised three sons.
Charlie’s business started with a 1952 Ford tractor he bought from an uncle who was retiring from farming. That tractor became the start of something much bigger.
After many years in Kings Mountain, the Herndon family moved the business and their family to South Carolina. In 1980 they settled in Lugoff, where Herndon, Inc. continued to grow.

Growing with the industry
Built on hydroseeding and erosion control.
As Herndon, Inc. grew, so did its vision. The company kept adapting to the changing needs of the fast-growing landscaping and construction industries.
Expertise in hydroseeding and erosion control became the foundation of the company and made Herndon, Inc. a trusted name throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Today, Herndon, Inc. operates under new ownership. The name stays, along with the focus on hard work, quality workmanship, and serving customers from locations in St. George, Lugoff, and Gaffney.
