Chemical Exposure: First Steps
- Get the person away from the chemical. Call 911 for a serious exposure.
- Eyes: flush with clean, cool water for 15 minutes.
- Skin: remove contaminated clothing and wash with soap and water.
- Swallowed or breathed in: call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. Do not make the person vomit unless told to.
- Open the product’s SDS below. Section 4 (First-Aid Measures) tells you what to do. Show it to emergency responders.
- Tell your supervisor and complete the Injury and Near-Miss Report (Form SF-3).

Where Else to Find SDS
- A paper SDS binder is kept at each office: Lugoff, St. George, and Gaffney.
- Scan the QR code sticker in any company truck to open this page.
- Contractors: bring SDS for any chemical you bring on a Herndon job site.
- Untreated seed, erosion control matting, silt fence, stakes, and staples do not need an SDS.
Missing or New Product?
If a product you use is not listed, or a link does not open, tell your supervisor or the Safety Coordinator, Brad Bates, at (843) 458-3526. Do not use a chemical without an SDS on file.
